While the project to digitise the Carl Giles archive will be making the material available to a wide audience and will provide digital archival copies of many of the items in the collection, it is still important to take care of the physical objects and ensure that the required convervation activities are carried out.

Throughout his life Giles was a great supporter of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). For almost 20 years he voluntarily provided the RNLI with artwork for some of their annual Christmas cards which were sold to raise funds for the organisation.
